A treasure of Indian history, preserved on a postage stamp! Did you know that Patna, Bihar, is home to one of India’s remarkable repositories of rare manuscripts? In this video, we explore the Khuda Bakhsh Oriental Public Library through a commemorative postage stamp issued by India Post on 21 November 1994. Founded by Khan Bahadur Khuda Bakhsh and opened to the public in 1891, the library grew from a personal collection into a major center for historical research. Its extraordinary holdings include rare Arabic and Persian manuscripts, printed books, and original paintings. In 1969, an Act of Parliament declared the library an Institution of National Importance. The stamp features a historical painting of the Taj Mahal from the Badshahnama, connecting philately with Mughal art, literature, and India’s cultural heritage. 📮 Every stamp tells a story.
